Reasons to Remove a Tree
Removing a tree isn’t a decision to come to lightly. Sometimes, a tree can be saved through pruning, appropriate treatments, or structural support. But, in other instances, there is nothing to be done but to have a tree removal professional safely cut down and remove the tree. Common reasons to remove a tree include:
Dead or Dying Tree
Besides looking unattractive, these trees can pose a safety risk to you and your family.
Overcrowding
Too many trees growing close together leads to increased disease and insect outbreaks, and weak, spindly trees.
Safety Hazard
If we can’t mitigate the risk through other means, it may be time for removal to protect your property and family.
Lack of Access
A tree you planted 20 years ago might not work with your current landscaping or may be too large to allow access.
Close Proximity to Structures
Trees growing too close to your home may damage the siding, roof, and even windows during windy weather.

Our Tree Removal Process: What to Expect
Proper and safe tree removal takes time and planning to make the operation run smoothly. We offer tree removal year-round, except during unsafe weather conditions such as ice, high wind, and extreme cold. When you hire Arborist Enterprises to cut down your tree, you can expect a process that looks like this:
Initial Assessment
We need to see the tree and your property before we do anything else. We’ll look at the tree itself and any complicating factors, such as its size and condition. We’ll also consider external factors, like nearby structures, power lines, and access to the tree.
Proposal & Recommendations
Based on what they observe, our representative will prepare and send you a detailed proposal describing how we recommend removing your tree. It will include the total price so there are no surprises.
Planning and Preparation
Once you approve the proposal, we’ll schedule the work based which equipment and crews are needed to do the work safely while doing our best to accommodate your preferred timeframe. Larger trees or ones in confined spaces may require us to use a crane, while smaller tree removals won’t require as much preparation or equipment.
Surgical Tree Removal
Our team uses high-tech equipment and modern practices to efficiently and safely remove a tree. Depending on the location and condition of a tree, we may use a grapple saw crane to remove the tree without the need for climbing. We also have a bucket truck and crane to make removals as efficient as possible.
Clean Up
We’ll haul away and dispose of the tree and debris (that’s included in the total price of tree removal). Want us to leave wood chips for you after the removal so you can use them for mulch? No problem; we’d be happy to! And if you don’t want to leave the stump in the ground, we offer stump grinding as an add-on service.

Tree Removal Permits in Our Service Area
Most tree removals in our area require a permit. We always follow local codes when doing any tree removal work. Some helpful resources for understanding permit requirements in the Lancaster County region are:
City of Lancaster: Removing a tree in the public right of way requires a free permit from the City Arborist. Private trees larger than 24 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) also require a permit.
Lititz: The Shade Tree Commission grants permits for cutting down shade trees within the borough.
Manheim Township: A free permit is necessary to remove any tree in the public right-of-way. The township typically only grants a permit if it sees the tree as a hazard due to decline or decay.
Call us at 717-393-7602 if you have any questions about tree removal permit requirements for your project.
Not All Trees Need to be Removed. Let Us Help You Decide!
We understand the frustration with a problem tree in your yard and the desire to remove it. But you shouldn’t decide to remove a tree lightly. It may only take an afternoon to remove a tree but it’ll take many years to grow a new one. You may not need to remove a dying tree, and our team can help determine if we can do something to save it. Some of the services we provide include:
Cabling and bracing: Weak limbs can cause structure damage or injuries if they fall off in a storm or from heavy snow. Installing cables connecting branches together can increase safety. Alternatively, we can install metal braces along a branch to improve its stability and lower the risk of breaking.
Plant health care: Tree diseases and pests can quickly kill trees. If we catch the problem early enough, we may be able to save your tree and nurse it back to total health.
Pruning: When trees grow larger than you expect, they can block paths and make it difficult to navigate around your yard. We may suggest pruning to increase walkability and avoid removal.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lancaster County Tree Removal Services
Tree removal can feel daunting, and we often field calls from residents worried about a tree. We’ve compiled some of the most common questions we get about taking down trees and quick answers to give you peace of mind.
Yes, we’re more than happy to remove smaller or ornamental trees if necessary. These removals are often easier and don’t require a large crew and crane to complete.
Due to increased activity from the emerald ash borer (EAB), many ash trees in the Lancaster area are dead or dying. These trees are very brittle and unsafe, making removal a delicate process. Arborists must take extra safety precautions when dealing with dead ash trees to prevent accidents and injuries. Many tree removal companies in our area don’t have the proper equipment or training to remove dead ash trees safely, and some choose not to handle this type of work.
No, we can remove a tree while you’re away. Once we know what tree to remove and any hazards to avoid, we can take the job from there. But, if you are home, we’d be happy to talk you through the process and can even recommend further steps to replace your removed tree.
We find that winter removals limit much of the collateral damage from tree removal, as the ground will be dry and partially frozen. Dry spells in the summer are also perfect for removal. However, trees can be safely and efficiently removed at any time of year.
While we don’t remove stumps, we offer stump grinding as a separate service. This service will grind the stump down to below soil level so you can get the eyesore out of your yard and use the space for something new. Let us know if you want to add this service so we can include it in your proposal.
Tree topping is incredibly harmful to a tree and won’t fulfill your goal of making it smaller. Topped trees put out a lot of new, weak growth that you’ll need to constantly remove. We do not top trees and do not recommend anyone perform this practice.
A lot goes into estimating the cost of a tree removal job. Typically, the price considers the equipment we need, time required, and the risk involved. A few of the other factors we look at include:
- The number of trees: If you want us to remove multiple trees, it will add to the price. However, removing numerous trees at once is more economical than having us remove them individually over several visits.
- The tree’s size: Larger trees are more challenging to remove and typically require more staff and equipment. Ornamental trees usually are less expensive jobs.
- The tree’s location: If your tree is near the street and can be easily reached by equipment parked on the street, removal will typically cost less than removing a tree in a cramped area or one with limited access.
- The tree’s health and condition: A dead or dying tree increases the risk when we remove it.
