High-Quality Tree Pruning Service

No matter what trees you need pruned, our experts at Arborist Enterprises can handle the job professionally and efficiently.

Crown Clearing

We remove poorly-structured, dead, or weak branches to improve the aesthetics of your tree and reduce the risk of potential hazards and damage to the tree.

Crown Thinning

Trees with large and crowded canopies won’t let light penetrate the lower portions of the tree. Crown thinning selectively removes branches to increase light penetration and airflow.

Crown Raising

Is a tree making it hard to walk around your property because you keep walking into branches? Crown raising removes lower branches to provide better clearance for foot and vehicle traffic as well as buildings.

Shrub Pruning

Pruning your shrubs will make them more uniform and beautify your property. Correctly timing shrub pruning can also lead to better flowering in the next season.

Our Process

Tree pruning is vital in keeping your trees healthy and beautiful, and we offer it year-round. When you hire Arborist Enterprises, here’s what you can expect the process to look like:

  • image (18)
    Initial Assessment

We want to meet with you to understand your goals for pruning your tree. Then, we’ll inspect the tree to look for any factors that may complicate the matter, including the condition and any signs of pest and disease damage.

  • image (16)
    Proposal & Recommendations

Our representative will send you a detailed proposal based on our findings during the initial consultation. It will outline the process we recommend to use as well as the cost. We don’t believe in hidden fees.

  • image (17)
    Planning and Preparation

Once you approve our proposal, we will schedule the project and assess our needs. A hard-to-reach tree near a fence or secondary power line will require a larger crew and more equipment than one in the middle of a field.

  • image (18)
    Efficient Tree Pruning

When we arrive, our team will establish a work and a drop zone where only our team can go to avoid any injuries or distractions. We’ll cut the necessary branches and safely lower large ones to the ground to avoid damaging your landscape, nearby fences, or structures.

  • image (19)
    Clean Up

Once you’re happy with how your tree looks, we’ll clean up all the debris and throw it into our woodchipper. We can leave the woodchips on site so you can make use of them as mulch for your trees or haul them away. The choice is up to you.

    Ensuring Satisfaction

Your satisfaction is our priority. If anything doesn’t meet your expectations, just let us know and we’ll make it right to ensure your property looks exactly as you envisioned.

Staying Safe During Tree Pruning

Pruning is a dangerous job best left to the professionals. Just sit back while we take care of your trees safely. If you have any pets, keep them inside and give them some special attention, as they may be on edge from the sound of chainsaws and branches falling.

Preparing for Your Tree Pruning

While we’ll handle the heavy lifting, tree pruning is a team effort, and we need you to prepare before we get to work. If you’ve never had your trees pruned before, don’t worry; we’ll walk you through the process.

    Remove Any Obstacles

If there are any lawn decorations, pieces of outdoor furniture, or toys lying in the yard, remove them before the scheduled pruning time. We don’t want anyone to trip over anything, and falling debris may damage anything left near the tree.

  • image (37)

Move Your Vehicle from Your Driveway

We’ll need to park some of our heavy equipment and trucks in your driveway or in front of your house. Doing this allows us to be more efficient and able to service your trees that aren’t easily accessible.

  • image (38)

    Unlock the Gate

We can’t prune your tree if we can’t reach it, so please leave any gates unlocked and an open path for our crew to get to the tree.

  • image (39)

    Inform Your Neighbors

If you live near others, please inform them about the impending pruning so they won’t be surprised by the people in your backyard and the noise. In rare cases, we’ll need access to your neighbor’s property to reach your tree, so please discuss it with them before we arrive.

Understanding Permitting for Your Tree Pruning

Ordinances on permits for tree pruning vary across our service area, but we’ve done a lot of tree work across Lancaster County, and we’ll tell you about any permits you need before we prune. Some of the local ordinances in our service area include:

  • City of Lancaster: You’ll need a permit to prune any street trees and large private trees that are not in the right of way.

  • Lititz: Although the Borough of Lititz does not require residents to obtain a permit for pruning, the Shade Tree Commission has regulations in place for how to prune. Using harmful techniques like tree topping, flush cutting, or lion’s tailing to a shade tree can lead to a landowner being liable to pay for replacing a tree.

  • Derry Township: Residents of Derry Township and Hershey must obtain a permit from the Shade Tree Commission to prune a public tree.

“I contacted Arborist for a quote to prune roughly 14 trees. They promptly scheduled a time to walk through the property and understand what we wanted done. They provided a good deal of information regarding the maintenance and upkeep of the trees. They provided a quote that same day. Once scheduled, the team showed up as scheduled, did all the work on the proposal, and made sure we were pleased with what was done. Excellent job of cleanup as they left no debris behind. We are very pleased with their professionalism and performance on this job.”

When to Have Your Trees Pruned

We offer pruning year-round, though different seasons provide varied opportunities for goals. Here’s a breakdown of what we do each season:

  • Winter: Winter is a great time for major pruning, as the tree is dormant, and the pruning cuts will cause less stress.

  • Spring: Pruning in spring is perfect for doing light work to encourage a better shape for the tree.

  • Summer: With a tree showing itself at full bloom, it’s easier to identify and remove dead branches and thin the canopy during the summer.

  • Autumn: Pruning in autumn is typically limited to removing dead branches, as major pruning will encourage growth before the winter.

“Over my five years as an Arborist Enterprises customer, I have experienced outstanding service and the accolades of my neighbors on the health and appearance of our trees and shrubs. Dependability, excellence, and expertise characterize all that Arborist and their team do for us.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Tree Pruning

All trees are different and have different needs for when we prune them. Generally speaking, mature trees can benefit from pruning every three to five years, whereas young trees may need pruning every two to three years. An arborist consultation with an ISA Certified Arborist can help you determine the best times to prune your trees.

Far too often, we have customers ask for tree topping to shorten the size of trees. This is extremely harmful to the tree and is frequently illegal to perform in some municipalities. Instead of topping trees, we offer pruning services like crown reduction to reduce the tree’s size without causing long-term harm.

Pruning not only benefits your trees but also you. For your trees, it helps young trees develop proper branch architecture and reduces the chance of failure during a major storm. For you, pruning increases your property’s curb appeal and property value.

If a tree looks unattractive or you keep running into branches, it may be a sign that it's time for some pruning. Deadwood on a tree is another clear indicator of the need for pruning. If you aren’t sure if a tree needs pruning, an arborist consultation can inspect your trees and determine if they need pruning (or something else like cabling and bracing or pest and disease control).
