Spar Pole Rigging – Mitigating the Hazards

Spar-pole rigging, or blocking down wood, is one of the most physically demanding activities for the climber and tree alike. Managing the forces of a falling weight captured and arrested with ropes and blocks demands strength and skill from the climber FOr years, few options existed to an arborist while spar-pole rigging. Spike up with a buck strap and start cutting was the general work plan. However, with the advent of modern materials and techniques, th dangers of negative blocking from a spar can be mitigated and greater climber comfort and ergonomics can be achieved.
